How to prepare PRP by using classic PRP tube?

This guide walks you through the full process of preparing Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) using the IPPOCARE Classic PRP Tube — a triple-sterile, ACD-based tube optimized for aesthetics and hair restoration. Whether you’re a dermatologist, clinic owner, or medical aesthetician, this step-by-step tutorial ensures consistent results and high platelet recovery.

Clinics following standardized PRP preparation protocols know that consistent results depend not only on technique, but also on tube quality and availability. Practices performing PRP regularly often rely on Classic PRP tubes with ACD and separation gel to ensure predictable platelet recovery.

For clinics that require fast replenishment, many now choose PRP tubes in stock in the USA to avoid treatment delays, while higher-volume practices often secure supply through PRP tubes wholesale programs for long-term cost control.

Why Proper PRP Preparation Matters

Correct handling and preparation are essential for obtaining a high concentration of platelets with minimal contamination. Poor preparation can reduce the effectiveness of PRP treatments for skin rejuvenation, hair restoration, or orthobiologics.

How to prepare PRP? Step 1 – Draw Blood

Remove the IPPOCARE Classic PRP tube from its sterile pouch. Clean the rubber stopper with a sterile alcohol swab. Use a butterfly needle or standard venipuncture technique to draw peripheral blood into the PRP tube.

Tip: Ensure the correct fill volume (approx. 10mL) to maintain proper anticoagulant ratio.

How to prepare PRP? Step 2 – Invert the Tube

• Immediately after blood collection, Invert PRP tube(s) 8–10 times to mix ACD-A anti-coagulant with the patients’ blood.
• Wipe the top of the tube with a clean alcohol swab.
• PRP tube to be processed within six (6) minutes after blood draw.

Why this matters: Proper mixing prevents clotting, ensuring platelet viability.
Common mistake: Shaking instead of gentle inversion. This can cause platelet damage.

How to prepare PRP? Step 3 – Centrifuge the Tube

SETTINGS: TEN(10)MINUTES; SPEED 1900 RCF

Place the filled tubes into a centrifuge. Use a balance tube of equal volume opposite your PRP tube to maintain stability.

  • Speed: 1900 RCF or ~3500 RPM
📝 RPM may vary depending on rotor radius. Always prioritize RCF (g-force) over RPM.
  • Time: 5–10 minutes depending on model

IMPORTANT NOTE!

Always refer to the centrifuge’s user manual. Tubes must remain upright, and centrifugation should begin promptly. Different sizes of centrifuges operating at the same speed may yield varying results. Therefore, we recommend using a speed of 1900 RCF for 10 minutes to achieve optimal results.

Pro Tip: PRP-specific centrifuges may improve separation consistency compared to general laboratory models.

put-prp-into-centrifuge

CAUTION: If you have your own Centrifuge, please follow manufacturer’s Instructions for Use for the centrifuge.

a) Centrifuge carriers and inserts should be of the size specific for the tube used.
b) Always allow the centrifuge to come to a complete stop before removing tubes.
c) Counterbalance tubes will be required to balance the weight of the tubes during centrifugation. When using a counterbalance tube, place the balance tube with the same weight as the filled PRP tube, opposite of the PRP tube.
d) Once the centrifugation spin cycle has stopped, open lid of centrifuge and examine tubes for any breakage or leaking prior to use.

How to prepare PRP? Step 4 – Extract PRP

After centrifugation, observe the separation:

  • Bottom layer: red blood cells
  • Middle gel layer: separator
  • Top: clear PRP (or PPP if spun longer)

Use a sterile syringe with a long needle to aspirate the PRP above the gel layer. Extract PRP or PPP from the tube depending on your needs and injected to treated areas.

🔬 Clinical note: Consistent centrifugation results depend on tube design and gel stability. Many clinics standardize this step by using CE- and ISO-certified Classic PRP tubes to reduce variability between spins, especially in high-volume aesthetic and hair restoration settings.

Platelet-Rich plasma-in syringe

CAUTION: Do not insert the needle into the separating gel. If needle comes in contact with the separating gel, discard the product.
• Alcohol swab the top of the PRP tube.
• Invert PRP tube
• Insert sterile syringe to a long needle (e.g. 18Ga x 1.5 inch)
• Insert long needle through the stopper
• Aspirate the PRP into the syringe.
• Once the PRP is transferred into the syringe, the product is ready for use.

INTENTION OF USE

IPPOCARE Classic PRP Tube is designed to be used for the safe and rapid preparation of autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) from a small sample of peripheral blood at the patient point-of care. The PRP is mixed with autograft and/or allograft bone prior to application to a bony defect for improving handling characteristics.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Our IPPOCARE Classic PRP Tubes is provided sterile and non-pyrogenic, utilizes a separator gel to isolate the platelets while eliminating the undesirable components such as red blood cells and inflammatory white blood cells. IPPOCARE Platelet-Rich Plasma Tubes allows you to remove red cells, white cells and platelet poor plasma (PPP) without removing a high percentage of platelets. With higher concentrations you can deliver a higher number of total platelets in fewer injections.

NOTE:

• For Single Patient Use Only. Once used, the blood collection tube must be discarded following the protocol for biohazard waste disposal, as required by the facility of use.
• The blood collection tube must be processed via centrifuge within 6 (six) minutes following blood draw.
• The PRP must be used within 4 (four) hours after drawing blood.

Storage and Handling

Store tubes between 4°C–40°C (39–104°F)
Do not freeze
Keep in dry, dark place

Shelf Life: 24 months from manufacturing date

CAUTION

a) PRP must be used on the same patient from which blood was drawn.
b) Do not use blood collection tube if any foreign matter is visible.
c) Do not use blood collection tubes that are, or appear to be, cracked or damaged.
d) Do not use blood collection tube after expiration date.
e) Do not re-sterilize or attempt to clean the blood collection tubes.
f) The PRP must be used within 4 (four) hours after drawing blood.
g) Practice Universal Precautions to protect from blood spatter and blood leak age to minimize the potential exposure to blood borne pathogens.
h) Handle all biologic samples and blood collection devices per the procedures established by facility of use.
i) Appropriate medical attention is required in the event of any exposure to biologic samples.
j) Under-filled tubes may result in poor product performance. It is recommended to discard an under-filled tube and re-draw blood into a second tube.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can I use any PRP tube for this method?

No. We recommend using PRP tubes with ACD and separation gel, like the IPPOCARE Classic PRP Tube.

Do I need to add calcium chloride?

No. IPPOCARE PRP tubes are activator-free and require no additional CaCl₂.

What is the expected PRP yield?

From a 10mL blood draw, you can expect ~6–8mL PRP depending on technique.

Can these tubes be used for PRF too?

No. PRF requires different anticoagulant-free tubes.

Where can I order more tubes?
